INTERVIEW // David Aaron
Posted by: Myk Likhov
I had a brief email interview the David Aaron, the lead singer of the Born Again Baldwins, before their gig this Sunday at Bardot.
WHO ARE THE BORN AGAIN BALDWINS?
Born Again Baldwins is Richard Kilstock, Jonathan Steinberger, Doug Wurtz, Loren Herbert, Joshua Strauss, and me.
CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT THE ORIGINS OF THE NAME?
We always say that if we knew that this would turn into something beyond our 1st show, we might have chosen a much cooler name. But the idea is that we’re effectively a band of brothers (3 of us are actually related – guess which ones) although none of us are born again – at all.
WHERE DO YOU DRAW YOUR INSPIRATION FROM?
From the musicians we’ve all grown up with and continue to grow with. Blending rock and rap by our favourite artists allows us to pay homage with each song we do.
MOST MEMORABLE PERFORMANCE?
They are all memorable, but we played one of the last shows at Don Hill’s in NYC. It was as though we and the crowd knew it would be the last time we’d play at this historic rock club which we had begun to call home. Also, playing Edison Ballroom w The Cult was a fairly mind-blowing episode.
WHAT’S BEEN THE BIGGEST SETBACK IN BAB’S CAREER?
We all have dayjobs. BAB is a hobby that has become a way to share our fun with the crowds who come to see us, but real life has a way of getting in the way of playing when and where we want, but we manage to make it work. Our shit always works sometimes.
WHAT DO YOU DO, WHEN YOU’RE OUT OF THE LIMELIGHT?
I work in real estate development/investment, i do a lot of yoga and i like to wine and dine.
WHERE IS THE BEST FOOD IN MIAMI?
Michael’s Genuine Food and Drink has got to be the best foodie experience, but I love a good sushi at Toni’s or a gastroevening at Pubbelly Sushi.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR SIGNATURE FASHION SENSE
It’s rather boring. Black jeans, black vNeck, black boots. From there, i simply add a shirt, sweater, waistcoat or whatever else makes it appropriate for the occasion. I travel a lot, so having everything everywhere match makes my life a lot easier than if i owned red trousers, green sweaters, brown shoes, etc
PREFERRED BRAND OF YOGA MAT?
I’m a Manduka guy. Black Mat PRO, of course.
